Layered silk, 26" x 30", 2020
In Phoenix, AZ, I traveled together with friends to see Gaman: Enduring Japanese American Internment at Gila River at the Chandler Museum. While there, I took a photograph of hundreds of folded paper cranes and their shadows which hung above the exhibit both as a memorial and in hope. Afterwards, I began trying to translate those shadows into fabric, and thus began my first explorations in layering and dyeing silk.
