It is hard to believe that nearly two years have past since my last blog post! I have had my head down, trying to focus on making, on staying calm.
I have explored constructing fiber collage memorials with silk and catching morning shadows.
Experimenting with paper collage and learning to use gouache to color my own paper.
I have worked on learning how to dye with natural indigo, experimenting with shibori techniques, and learning to apply gold leaf. And, I have worked to focus my easily distracted, anxious-from-the-news mind with hours of slow, methodical hand sewing.
I hung the most extensive show of my work to date (at East Bay Community Foundation), just months before everything shut down.
I have made protest “posters” to support people working on the frontlines and Black Lives Matter.
I built hand-sized figures from wire and scraps to lift my spirits and as offerings to friends.
We are not out of the woods yet. We have lost so many. But today, we have a moment of news-cycle calm. I am hopeful the 2020 pandemic will soon come to a close.
